A Healthy Woman Lifestyle… the 4 F’s

If you’re a woman and you want to have a healthy lifestyle, then you’ve come to the right place.  You may be healthy or you may think that being healthy is out of the question for you.  I’m here to tell you that it’s available to everyone!

There are 4 areas that I think are critical to address for a healthy woman lifestyle:

  • Food
  • Fitness
  • Friends
  • Faith

Let’s call them the 4 F’s!  If you were to assess your 4 F’s, where would you say that you are?  Barely getting by?  Blow the roof off awesome?  Got 2 or 3 of them covered, but 1 of them you just can’t seem to get a handle on?

FoodHealthy-Foodd

What we put in our bodies is critical to our health.  I don’t think that’s anything new.  But sometimes we don’t clearly see the relationship.  Sometimes we’re hungry and we just want to eat something.  Sometimes we’re tired and don’t want to cook and the kids are clamoring for McDonald’s.  Sometimes we’re fooled by the labels on the box of food that says “natural” or “healthy”.

Sometimes we eat something and get an immediate reaction to it, like indigestion or gas.  We know that something didn’t agree with us, but does that usually stop us from eating it again?  Not usually.

So, if knowing that something doesn’t agree with our bodies doesn’t stop us from eating it, why would we stop eating those things that we don’t know don’t agree with us?  That’s how it is with most junk food.  Our bodies don’t clearly tell us that we shouldn’t eat it.  That’s not to say that our bodies don’t tell us.

The way our bodies tell us is by accumulating fat and by acting in ways that bodies aren’t supposed to act.  Eventually, we get sick.  We could get headaches and we wouldn’t relate that to what we ate.  We could get a back ache and we wouldn’t relate that to what we ate.  We could get cancer and we wouldn’t relate that to what we ate.  The truth of the matter is that it’s all related.

So, next time you’re tempted to eat something that you know is bad for you, imagine ten years down the road what the implications of that could be.  Then choose wisely.

Fitnessroller girls

The need for exercise cannot be overemphasized.  You gotta get moving!  Chase the puppy, chase the toddler, chase the cat, chase your husband or wife!  Get up out of your chair and move.

I am not saying that you have to join a gym, or go to a zumba class, or take up tennis, or practice yoga, although any of those would be great.  You could walk to a neighbor’s house that’s down the block instead of driving.  I have to say that I think it’s criminal to drive your car to a neighbor’s house, and yet I’ve seen people drive across the street!

It’s really pretty simple.  If you’re on your feet instead of your butt, you’re on your way to being fit.

Friendstrue friend

I used to think that I was the only one who didn’t have any friends.  No matter how well I did in the fitness and food categories, I wouldn’t consider that I was particularly healthy at that time.  I had a rather negative view of life.

Now I have friends and I’m still lonely at times.  That’s why I have 2 dogs and 2 cats.  I’m never completely alone.  What I’ve noticed over the years is that once people settle down with a significant other, they don’t continue to cultivate their friendships.  I think that’s a mistake.

It’s important to have more than one friend.  People who spend all their time with only one person tend to become very narrow in their views.  Now, don’t take this the wrong way.  Just consider that there’s nothing new with that one person.  They tend to become so much alike that they can finish each others sentences and they know what the other person’s going to say before they say it.  We think that’s cute!  I think they need some more friends.

Make time for friends.  And make time for your own friends.  You don’t have to do everything as a couple.

Faithfaith

A healthy lifestyle includes faith in something other than yourself.  It could be God, it could be a higher power, it could be nature.  Believing in something is important.  Even if the other areas “go to hell in a handbasket”, faith will get you through.

Most of my life I didn’t have faith.  I didn’t believe in anything.  I thought that I had to do it all and that I could do it all.  If I wanted something, I had to make it happen.  I thought that I was in control.  Boy was I mistaken.

With faith, I relinquish the idea of being in control.  I know that I still need to do my part, but I don’t have the ultimate control.  It takes a great load off of me and I feel much healthier now.

Keepin’ it simple

I hope you don’t think this was too simple.  Having a healthy woman lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard.  It’s partially common sense and partially being open to whatever is out there, whether it be friends or faith or friends with faith.  I think that each of us has a knowing within us that will guide us if we let it.  Call it intuition or a hunch or whatever you want to call it.  Listen to it.

Thank you for being here.  Please leave me a comment below.  I truly am interested in what you have to say.
