Fitness after 60…still full of life, love, and fun!

I had the dreaded birthday and I lived through it.  Now that I’m on the other side of 60 I can tell you that, without a doubt, I feel no different than I did at 30.  I have every intention to remain as active, healthy, adventurous, and alive as ever.  And I invite all of you to do the same.60

What if we all lived as if life was a creation and we get to say how it goes?  Would we create being sick or overweight or unhappy?  Unfortunately, the answer is “yes”.  We actually do create that.

I’m not saying that we do it intentionally.  I’m pretty sure that 99.9% of the time we don’t know that we’re doing it.  But what if we are?  What if we’re doing it by the things that we eat, the things that we drink, the things that we do or don’t do, and even by the things that we think?  If we can make ourselves sick, then by any logic we can make ourselves well.

Age has nothing to do with it

I want you to be well.  What’s it going to take for you to be healthy and full of life?

What if you were more powerful than you could even imagine?  What if anything you thought actually came into being?  Would you think you were a loser?  Would you tell yourself that you’re good for nothing?  Would you tell yourself that you can’t have the things you’ve only dreamed about?  No.you are what you think

I know what you think about yourself.  They aren’t true.  How do I know that?  Because I think the same things about myself.  And it’s not true.  It’s all made up, like a story in a magazine.  If we’re making up stories, then let’s you and I make up some great stories.  Let’s make up something that inspires us.

Let’s create a healthier you

What’s it going to take?  Just a little shift in our way of thinking.  And a big shift in our way of being.  I’ll give you an example.

It’s Monday morning and my alarm goes off at 5:15.  I roll over and turn the alarm off.  Now I’m lying in bed knowing that I should get up but thinking about how I can rationalize staying in bed another hour.  I can’t do it because I have a whole lot of “shoulds” rolling around in my head.  I should get up, I should do my exercises, I should get to work by 8, I should be productive… the list is endless.

At this point, I can make myself get out of bed and I’m going to be resentful, annoyed, and grumpy.  Or I can create something else.  Resentful, annoyed, and grumpy are automatic responses.  So, what if I get to decide who I’m going to be when I get up?  Why not?  Why allow outside circumstances to run my life?  That’s pretty crazy when you think about it.

Now, before I get out of bed, I lie there for a few more minutes and create something different.  Who do I want to be today?  If I could be anything or anyone, who or what would I want to be?  I’d like to be powerful.  I’d like to be loving.  I’d like to have peace of mind.  I’m going to be powerful, loving, and peaceful.  That sounds good.

To take it one step further, if I were powerful, loving, and peaceful, what actions would I take to support that creation?  I might eat a good, powerful breakfast so I’ll have the energy to be powerful.  I might be loving to my partner or pets or co-workers and they’ll probably respond positively.  I might take some time to meditate so that I will feel at peace.

Do you see that this could make a difference in your day?  Will it help you feel better and live longer?  Probably!  It’s definitely worth a try.  What will you create?

Let’s start creating healthy bodies and active minds

If we’re creating a healthy body, then we have to put healthy food into our body.  I hate to say it, but if we put junk into our bodies, then our bodies will be junky.  I like junk food as much as the next person, but I respect my body too much to give it pure junk.

Do you respect your body?  What about your mind?  If not, it’s time to start respecting them.  Respect them by taking care of them and doing good things with them.  They will pay you back tenfold.

What’s your first step?  I would recommend with starting the moment you wake up and you get to choose how your day is going to go.  Then, what are you and your body going to do?   The same thing you’ve always done?  Or something new?

I’m going to start by juicing.  It’s a great way to get real live food into your body in an easy way that tastes good.  There are several good juicers out there that you can use.  One of the easiest and quickest is the Blendtec Total Blender.  You can read my review here.  Or you can shop around on amazon for one that fits your budget.  Keep in mind that it’s an investment in your health, so you want something that will last and will be easy enough to use every day.

For my mind, I like playing games on lumosity.com.  It’s a great website full of games and tests to challenge your mind.  You can check out one of the games by clicking here.

I’m not going to let a little number like 60 get in my way.  Fitness after 60 is a way of life and I’m going to live, love, and have fun doing it.  Who’s joining me?
