Who is Hydros?

By purchasing your Hydros Bottle, you are joining Operation Hydros, the fight against the global water crisis. The crisis is that 1 out of 7 people worldwide lack access to clean water.  Not only does your bottle provide you with great tasting water on the go, each purchase helps fund sustainable water projects. Through these water projects, the proceeds of a single Hydros Bottle sold will provide clean water for someone in need for one whole year.

For their first project, Hydros partnered with Engineers Without Borders to deliver fresh water to the thirsting village of Gundom in Cameroon. Future water projects are currently underway, and will help guarantee the right to clean water for generations to come.

How does it work?

This water bottle has a side fill port, so you can fill it up in a water fountain or in a sink.  Since the water gets filtered on the way in, most people say that it has to be done slowly.  Therefore, the 20 second refill time that the company claims may actually take closer to 30 or 45 seconds.  Once it’s gone through the filter though, it’s ready to drink, unlike many other filtering bottles that filter as you drink.

Many users claim that it’s very tricky to figure out the first time, but that it gets easier once you figure it out.  Since the filter lasts for about 3 months, at least you only have to deal with changing the filter every 3 months.

It also only filters potable water.  Therefore, you wouldn’t want to use it for water from non-potable sources like lakes or streams.

What about customer service?

I’ve heard from both sides of this subject.  Most people seem to be quite happy with the service.  The company apparently did a re-design to eliminate the problem of leakage, and many people sent in their old leaky model for a brand new model.  Those people were quite happy.  Then there were some people who complained about their bottle leaking and got no response.

I have to wonder about how responsive they are when their website seems to be quite outdated.  In addition, their online shop does not have any bottles available.

Overview

There are just as many 5 star reviews as there are 1 star reviews, so it would be hard to recommend this item.  It sounds like they have made some improvements to the design, but until they do, I would be hesitant to buy it.  If you’re looking for something to keep with you at work at your desk, you could probably go with something bigger that you don’t have to refill so often.  If you are active and want to carry it with you, make sure that you have the lid perfectly aligned so that it doesn’t leak.

Final Verdict

It’s a toss-up.  If you’re prepared for a little frustration the first time and you want good tasting water from the tap, then go for it.
