Sixty Schmixty

I’m coming up on the big 60! Don’t we just love to make a big deal about it? We’re all either going to get there someday, or we’ve already passed it, or we’ll be pushing up daisies instead. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think it’s such a big deal in terms of daily living. It’s not like on the day I turn 60, my boobs will hit the ground (too far to go), my hair will turn grey (it already is), or my triceps will start jiggling. No… I have a say in my life after 60 and it’s not going to look any different than my life in my 50’s. Or maybe I’m going to be even more fit after 60.

Healthy Eating

Did I just hear you groan when you read the words, “healthy eating”? I know what you’re thinking because I’ve thought the same thing most of my life. Healthy = boring, tasteless, and unappetizing right? Wrong! It’s time for a shift in perspective. Indulge me for a moment while I share with you what a shift in perspective can do.

A couple of years ago, I was very unhappy.
I’m being generous when I say unhappy, because I was really pretty miserable and depressed. Nothing in my life was going the way I thought it should be going. I didn’t have what I thought I should have by that point in my life. I wasn’t in a relationship. I didn’t have a job. I didn’t have many friends. Everything seemed to be dark and lonely. I thought something was wrong with me.

Then I spent 3 and 1/2 days in the Landmark Forum landmark
and everything shifted. At the end of those few days, I had a whole new perspective. My life looked the same, but my view of life was different. I realized that everything was perfect. How could it not be? It was the way it was. I know it may sound crazy, but my life was not the same afterward. That’s the power of perspective!

So, now we can get back to healthy food. We can change our perspective and then healthy food = colorful, juicy, and enlivening. When you eat it you feel energized because it has life in it. As good as a doughnut may taste, it has no life in it and it can’t energize you. In fact, not only will you get no physical benefit, but you’ll probably beat yourself up about eating it. So why do we do that to ourselves? Because we’re addicted.

addict boy
I don’t know about you, but I find plenty of things to make myself wrong about and plenty of other things that are just plain wrong. Of course, now I remind myself that I made the whole thing up and I don’t take it personally. But how many of us make ourselves wrong for the food we eat or don’t eat? Come on… fess up. Do you ever feel like the little boy sitting in the corner with a dunce cap on his head? Well, it’s time to bust free! No more guilt, no more make-wrong, no more beating ourselves up.

What’s the bottom line?

I’m a bottom line kind of person, so I’m going to tell it to you straight. Don’t give up all the stuff you know you’re not supposed to eat! You heard me. Don’t give up all that stuff! You love me now, don’t you?

Instead, give up ONE thing you know isn’t good for you and replace it with something you know IS good for you. So, instead of drinking that can of Diet Coke, drink a tall cold glass of sparkling water. And think of that water flowing through your body washing away bad stuff (the technical term) and filling you with life. You’re like a plant that thrives on water. Just like water makes a plant greener and enables it to flourish and thrive, it does the same to you. Let’s all start to flourish and thrive today!

Flourish and Thrive!

I’m going now to drink a glass of water. Who’s with me? It’s time to change our perspective about water. Up until now, I thought water was boring. I mean, it doesn’t even have any taste, does it? And that’s the good water. City water usually has taste, but that’s not such a good thing. But, what’s another way we can start thinking today? This water is giving me life! This water is coursing through my body bringing it life. It’s filling my cells and plumping up my corpuscles. It’s causing me to flourish and thrive!

Here’s to you!

I’d love to hear from you. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think. Do you feel energized? I hope so.

Thank you for being here.
I love you,
